ANAHEIM, Calif. (May 6, 2023) — Jerrid Meikle, an eighth grade teacher at John A. Sutter Middle School, is among 100 creative and imaginative teachers from across the country that were celebrated on Friday for the Disney Imagination Campus 100 Teachers Celebration at Disneyland Resort in California. The festivities took place ahead of Teacher Appreciation Week and included a celebratory moment in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, educational workshops, speakers and even a special cavalcade.
The teachers were honored by Disney Imagination Campus in a glittering midday cavalcade through Disneyland Park that included popular Disney characters and lively entertainment amid a sea of cheering guests. The festive scene was yet another magical moment to celebrate the teachers.
Meikle was one of 13 teachers from California selected for his innovation in the classroom, specifically for how he leads his class in developing creative solutions to help clean the ocean. Meikle fervently guides his students to use the Engineering Design Process to work in teams to imagine, design, test, and redesign a model of a potential solution to the ocean plastic pollution problem.
The teachers, who came from 39 states, were selected from more than 7,900 written applications that centered on their innovation and creativity in their classrooms on a regular basis.
The cavalcade was just one of the many highlights of the Disney Imagination Campus 100 Teachers Celebration, which pays tribute to the nation’s most imaginative and creative elementary, middle and high school teachers. Throughout the weekend, the teachers were treated to behind-the-scenes experiences, an educational workshop, special entertainment opportunities and inspiring sessions led by Disney leaders.
